The sun was blazingly hot it casted dark shadows on anything it touched on.
Long before the watch was invented, our forefathers used the casted shadows of objects to tell the time of the day. If the shadow is right under you it is 12 noon. Early dawn and twilight make the longest shadows of the day.
Shadows are as lifelike and lifesize when the sun just hit objects at the right time of the day.
