The Walkman is Dead! Long Live the Walkman!

Today Sony terminated the production of the tape based walkman. It has been 31 years since the first walkman brought music closer to our ears and our hearts.

I still remember the sound of the Clash blaring all over my ears and right into my brain; I started jogging with the music of Rocky pushing me on to that extra mile; I was moonwalking on Michael Jackson`s Billy Jean tune;  I was just oblivious of the world around me when music was fodder on my soul.

Though we have now the Ipods, the bluetooth headsets, the hi-fidelity Bose headsets, music from the walkman was never been that good. The hissing noise made by an overused cassette tape makes the music more surreal. Yeah, I am old school. I like vinyl records more than CDs, more  the than 320 kbps VBR AAC files. I still like it with the static noises. I still like it when music was music to my ears.

Yes, Walkman, you can now fly somewhere.

Jailbreaking iOS 4.1

Today I was able to jailbreak iOS 4.1 on my iPhone 4. I used Geohot's boot rom exploit Limera1n. I was actually waiting for Chronic dev team's Greenpois0n jailbreak but Geohot, for whatever reasons he had, released his Limera1n jailbreak even if it is still in beta. This has caused the Chronic dev team to postpone the release of the Greenpois0n as they don't want Apple to be able to patch two jailbreaks at the same time. This has also made them angry at Geohot because apparently they think that Geohot's motive of releasing his jailbreak a day before the planned release of Greenpois0n was to steal the limelight from them.

Anyway, Limera1n was working well for me and I am now able to install personalized apps and configure my iPhone to my liking. The jail breaking process was a breeze.Just follow the instructions from the many blogs and sites that have also used Gehot's Limera1n boot rom exploit. And to think this jailbreak is for the life of the device as this can only be patched by Apple through releasing new devices. I hope it will stay that way.

Books I Am Reading

I love reading. Ever since I was a kid reading books, magazines, newspapers was a way of life. Now paired with the latest technology reading was never been better or easier. E-book readers are getting cheaper too. The iBooks app on the Ipad is such a delight. I am currently reading different books at the same time jumping from one book to another at a flick of a finger.

Chill Out Music

It has been awhile since I last posted on this blog. Lately I had been trying to organize my collection of songs in my i-Tunes library. Chill out and alternative music are few of my favorite genre. Lately I am listening frequently on one of my favorite album "The Rainbow Goblins" by Masayoshi Takanaka. It feels so good to listen to this kind of music. It just relaxes your soul and refreshes your mind.

Please try his music too. I know you will like it.

IPHONE 4i IS HERE

Yes folks I call it 4i instead of 4G as 4G can be confused to a 4th generation of mobile wireless transmission. 4i on the other hand is more accurate as it means 4th iteration of the Iphone which is what it really is.

There were no surprises here as most of what we expect were already discussed, blogged and posted on numerous websites.

Does the Iphone 4i leapfrogs the 3GS? I doubt it. Though there are some nifty and nice new features, these are things that will be covered, leapfrogged by the gazillion of Android phones coming in the next few months. But this Iphone 4i is still much better overall than the rest of the smartphone in the market already or those coming out in the open.

LoveShadows

The sun was blazingly hot it casted dark shadows on anything it touched on.

Long before the watch was invented, our forefathers used the casted shadows of objects to tell the time of the day. If the shadow is right under you it is 12 noon. Early dawn and twilight make the longest shadows of the day.

Shadows are as lifelike and lifesize when the sun just hit objects at the right time of the day.

Playing Volleyball at 36 Celsius

Will you be willing to bask in a 36 degrees celsius under the sun to play a game of volleyball? Of course if the sea looks so tempting to swim in, well, the heat just doesn't bother you anymore.

Facebook Addict

Do you have Facebook addiction? Answer yes or no the following questions:
1) Do you spend more than an hour a day in Facebook?
2) Do you feel a lot of stress and anxiety if you try going a day without Facebook?
3) Do you do Facebooking while at work?
4) Do you have the urge to find old friends, classmates, co-workers, neighbors in Facebook and adding them as friends?
5) Do you log in to Facebook first more often than reading your mail?

If you answer yes to any one of the questions then you probably is addicted to it. And you should also see a therapist.

Papa Let's Go Home

As darkness fills the landscape, the urge to go home to safety overwhelms the body and mind. I have to cling to dear Papa's reassuring hands for protection and comfort knowing that he will always be there for me.

The breeze of the sea underneath the shadow of the setting sun cause shivers to my whole body. The wet sand and whispering wind makes the journey back home all the more frightening for me,  but Papa is always ready for anything that may come our way.

Virgin Island

Shades of Blue, originally uploaded by nalivio.
The water on this island is crystal clear. It is not yet as polluted as other beaches in the Philippines hence the name Virgin Island. You can actually feed the fishes just within meters off the beach.

People just go there in the morning and take off in the afternoon as there are no lodges to stay on.

This island is located west of Bantayan Island where most of the resorts are located.

Fastest to 1 Billion $ in Sales

Yes that's the headline. The Ipad will become the fastest consumer product to reach 1 billion dollars in sales. This thing is selling like hotcakes. This type of devices has been available for years even decades but was never a hit. Only at this time and only after the magic touch of Steve Jobs did the slate type computers are flying of the shelves.

The Ipad is hitting the market at the right time. Let me explain why.

1) Faster internet connection available to many people. With this consuming content like movies, games, videos is just a zinch. Five or ten years ago this bandwidth speed was not widely available.

2) Faster chips, better hardware, cheaper devices. Five years ago this kind of devices would have cost much more that a full size laptop. Now they can be available much less.

3) Mobility. People want to have resources and content available anytime anywhere. With the Iphone introduced in 2007, people now realized that they need something that can easily and quickly access and connect to their content in the cloud. Yes laptops would do it but not as quickly and not as easily as the Ipad. Yes smartphones would do it but not gorgeously and beautifully on a bigger screen.

4) Apple magic. And yes only Apple could make and deliver this kind of magic. And you know what this started when the first Ipod was introduced in 2001.

So there you have it. The Ipad will not only be the fastest to a billion bucks but it will kill the netbook but not the notebook, except if that notebook cost the same as the Ipad.

Perspective And Symmetry

I love it when everything is balanced and equal. But it tends to be boring and lifeless. However which way is it, there will be some use of a photo that is taken to portray harmony and regularity.

How I Intend to Use an Ipad 3G

The Ipad 3G is here:

If ever I have one I definitely will use it on the following:

1) Casual mobile internet browsing - It means I can browse the internet anywhere anytime. I will use it while in bed, while in the bathroom, while taking coffee, during mealtime, during breaktime while watching TV, while on the mall, while on classes, with friends...I guess almost anywhere while I have the time to surf.

2) As a Book - I have two monitors in my main computer. One of the monitor is for an E-book while I do stuff stuff on the other one that the e-book is teaching me. But I find this setup an eyestrain. Now with the Ipad I could basically study and learn the old fashion way: a book and a computer. And just like surfing I can read my e-books anywhere anytime. Ain't that cool.

3) Communication Tool - Yes, yes, yes...via email, social networking, chat rooms. Again anywhere anytime on a lovely gorgeous big screen.

4) Watching videos - TV shows I like, movies, video clips...but I will watch them casually as I still prefer watching videos in a big big wide screen.

5) More, more more Apps - The Ipad 3G will have gazillion of applications that will do task we have not thought of before. I for one would like to make one.

But the Ipad does not replace my notebook. It though will complement it.

I Wanna Swim

Oh my God the weather is killing me. Today is another hot hot day. Not even a cloud to cover the rays of the sun that feels like arrows hitting you from heaven.

I wish I am now on the this pool again on one of the resorts here in Cebu Philippines.

This is one of my HDR shots using the AEB function of the camera. Processing was done using Photomatix and Photoshop. I hope you will like it.

Cannon on the Pool

Though I don't pretty much like the composition of this shot I still feel satisfied on how the colors turned out. It makes you like going to the pool.

Caliente!!! It is sooo hot...

I know I live in a tropical country but the weather just keep getting hotter and hotter everyday. What is it today? 37 degrees Celsius? (98.6 Fahrenheit).

It is so hot today that you can make an omelet under the sun.

It is so hot today that that the ice cream van melted right to the ground.

But you can always go to the beach and enjoy the sun.

Ahhh Flowers...

Don't you just love them? Taking photos of them at a macro level exposes new worlds to see and wonder.

This one was taken at Hiroshima's Botanical Garden. I bet the bees are aching to land on this succulent and luscious thing.

Java Programming

Today I started learning Java programming. It has always been my goal to learn one of those computer languages which will help me develop software that people will like to use. I wanted  to learn C language and all its variants (C#, C++, etc.) because they are the most commonly used but then I opted for Java as I know this has the future written on it as they say.

I have downloaded books and compiler software to aid me in learning them easily. Reading the books was what I intended as the way to learn Java. But then I found this guy in Youtube who has tons of tutorial videos on Java programming. His name is Bucky and he goes by the call name "thenewboston" (I guess he is from Boston). His way of teaching if nice and easy that even if you don't have any prior knowledge of Java or any programming language you will still be at home once you see his videos. So anybody interested in learning Java, see the videos of this thenewboston guy.

Who Needs a RIM Blackberry Pearl?

RIM announced the new Blackberry Pearl which is targeted for mass audience (meaning something cheap). Who needs this when in a couple of months Apple 4G will be rolled out in the market pushing down the 3G and 3GS for mass market appeal.

This model though will have a traditional keypad unlike most smartphones today which have touch user interface.

Well I guess many people out there still want those keypads where typing 100 letters a minute is a zich.

Coolness in the Air

I just feel the coolness of this shot. A purple flower on a green cool background makes the petals float on air.

This was taken on one of the malls in Hiroshima, Japan. The raw picture did not really look this cool and nice. It was when I finished processing it by enhancing the lights and colors did the final output as seen on this picture came out.

Flower shots are really great when taken in macro. And more will be shown in this blog in the days to come.
